Roy Casto on DNA and Casto Origins

In 2017, Roy Casto authored a book titled The Casto Family: An American Journey, which explored the origins of the Castos in America, discussed the first Castos living in New Jersey in the early 1700s, and tracked some of the descendants of William (1717) and David (1721) Casto from the early 1700s to the mid 1800s. Roy also listed his ongoing research as to where the DNA results were leading as to the origins of the Casto family.

In 2020, Roy published a second book on the Castos, The Casto Family, A Long Way from Kilkenny. These are his comments on the latest book:

Dear Casto Cousins and Friends,

Let me first thank you for your interest in my book, "The Casto Family, An American Journey."

When I first published this book in 2017, I included all the research that was available at that time. This included the most current DNA information, unfortunately there was little direct Casto DNA evidence back in 2016/2017.

In my book I suggested that the evidence available at that time most likely pointed to a Casto family connection to the country of Ireland, but that we had no reliable proof. I also reported that I believed future DNA breakthroughs would eventually clearly indicate where our earliest Casto ancestors came from.

Those DNA breakthroughs came much sooner than I expected.

New DNA testing now provides absolute evidence that our earliest Casto ancestors came to southwestern New Jersey from Ireland. My latest research proves that our Casto family is directly descended from the ancient Irish Costello family, and that we Castos actually have cousins and a homeland in County Kilkenny, Ireland. This is exciting new information.

I intended to include this information in a new edition of "The Casto Family, An American Journey." But given the fact that we now have actual evidnce of our family beyond the United States, I'm compelled to retitle the book to indicate the significant new Irish connections. I now present this information in a new book, now titled "The Casto Family, A Long Way Grom Kilkenny."

While some of the information in this new book is the same as in my original book, I now also include extensive new information that clearly connects our Casto family to a specific Costello family. This information details the area of Ireland where our ancestors lived, discusses actual family relationships and history, and also describes how and why our ancestors likely arrive in southwestern New Jersey circa 1683.

I now have copies of the new book available from the printer. If you would like one please let me know. The cost is $40, as printing and shipping costs have gone up dramatically.

If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the new book, please make payment to:
